St. Petersburg, FL - Fresh off the opening weekend at Circuit of The Americas, TCR and TCA teams and drivers move from one of North America's premier road courses to compete at one of the continent’s premier motorsports festivals on the streets of St. Petersburg. A 17-car field will take to the 1.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street circuit for Rounds 3 and 4 as part of the 16th annual St. Petersburg Grand Prix weekend.
Maxson Leads TCR Class Heading to the Sunshine State
Coming off a dominant double-win weekend at COTA, Tyler Maxson will look to keep the early season momentum going in his #74 Copeland Motorsports Hyundai Veloster N. The team also brings its #51 Hyundai Veloster N for Nikko Reger, who like his teammate Maxson had a successful opening weekend in Texas; Reger scored the Round 1 pole and finished second to his teammate in both Rounds 1 and 2.
Looking to strike back in St. Petersburg is the 2019 TCR Driver's Champion Michael Hurczyn in the #71 FCP Euro Volkswagen Golf GTI. Hurczyn finished third in Round 1 and fourth in Round 2 while teammate Nate Vincent in the #72 FCP Euro Volkswagen Golf GTI finished fourth and third.
Puerto Rican Victor Gonzalez Jr. will be behind the wheel of the #99 VGMC Racing Honda Civic Type-R. DXDT Racing brings its #04 Honda Civic Type R for CJ Moses, while Roy Block will pilot the #5 KMW Motorsports/TMR Engineering Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
Can Pombo and Boehm Carry Momentum in St. Petersburg?
Mark Pombo won Round 1 at COTA in his #61 MINI JCW Team MINI Cooper, while Kevin Boehm had a third and a second in Texas in his #9 Boehm Racing Honda Civic Si. Both will look to carry that momentum into St. Pete.
Tyler Gonzalez will be behind the wheel of the Copeland Motorsports' #57 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, while CB Motorsports brings their #18 CB Hyundai Veloster Turbo for Caleb Bacon. Bacon's Teammate Matt Forbush will drive the #33 Hyundai Veloster Turbo.
TechSport Racing brings two Subaru BRZ tS for Joey Essma and PJ Groenke. Essma will pilot the #22 machine while Groenke, who finished third in Round 2 in Texas, will drive the #25 car. VGMC Racing also brings two cars to the St. Pete TCA grid for Juan Diego Hernandez in the #59 Honda Civic Si and Jonathan Newcombe in the #178 Honda Civic Si. Rounding out the TCA field for St. Pete is Jose Dasilva in the #07 Ives Motorsports Mazda Global MX5 Cup ND.2
