TechSport Racing has announced its return to the SRO paddock in 2021. The team plans to compete in the TC America series in several classes.
Owned by Kevin Anderson and Deborah Popolizio, the North Carolina-based team houses its operations out of the VIRginia International Raceway facility. No stranger to success in the SRO paddock, TechSport Racing has captured several Driver, Team and Manufacturer championships spanning back to the 2015 season. In 2019, the team was recognized as the Crew of the Year.
This year’s focus will be to serve as a Toyota Racing Development (TRD) driver development team, helping to coach young, up-and-coming drivers through the early stages of their respective careers. With a largely Toyota fleet available, TechSport is committed to expanding the manufacturer’s presence in road racing as well as developing a series-to-series ladder program to accommodate the increasing number of road courses in elite racing series such as NASCAR.
Returning to the team for another season is former 2017 TCB Drivers Champion P.J. Groenke; Groenke will compete in the TCA class in a Toyota 86.
Competing with Groenke is TechSport newcomer Jesse Love. Love, known as “The Hammer”, most recently has acquired the title of 2020 ARCA West Champion, the youngest driver to receive the accolade.
Joining him is 15-year-old upstart Sammy Smith, already seasoned in the NASCAR development series after only a few years on the circuit. Smith will also pilot a Toyota 86 in the TCA class.
In TC, veteran SRO competitor Joseph Federl returns to add to his hardware and resume, continuing to challenge the TC class in the TechSport Racing Nissan 370Z, joining Joe in a 2nd 370Z will be Rob Hines. Rob is a veteran club racer and SCCA National Champion.
“I am beyond excited to be able to work with my 2021 team. Not only does both Joe, Rob and PJ have a chance to race for a championship, I also think both of these young Toyota drivers have the ability to quickly get up to speed and be a factor as well. The opportunity to work with future Toyota stars is exciting. I am proud that my team will be helping these drivers reach their goals. TechSport is 100% committed to giving its drivers the best opportunity for success. “ - Kevin Anderson
The TC America season kicks off at Sonoma Raceway on March 5th, 2021.
