29 Cars Gear Up for 2021 TC America Powered By Skip Barber Racing Season at Sonoma Raceway

Sonoma, Calif. - The green flag is about to wave on the 2021 TC America Powered By Skip Barber racing season with the popular touring car series taking on Sonoma Raceway in northern California on March 5-9. 

TCX makes its championship debut as the top class in TC America with the new-for-2021 BMW M2 CS Cup car racing for the first time in North America. KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering will enter the 280 HP, 6-cylinder BMW for Roy Block in the #5 while series regulars Classic BMW bring the #81 for Jacob Ruud and the #27 for Tommy McCarthy. 

15 touring car regulars from Honda, BMW, Hyundai, Nissan, and Mazda will compete in TC America’s closely-knit second division, known simply as TC.

DXDT Racing and Kevin Boehm, the 2020 TCA class champion, will move up a category and field the #9 Honda Civic Type R TC. Presenting partner Skip Barber Racing will bring two more of the same Civics Type R variants for Lindsay Brewer in the #29 and Eric Powell in the #92, running under the Skip Barber Racing School team colors. LA Honda World Racing returns with its two Type Rs piloted by Frank Szczesniak in the #73 machine and Mike LaMarra in the #37. Puerto Rico’s VGMC also returns with owner/driver Victor Gonzalez Jr challenging for the title behind the wheel of the #8 entry.

Long-time TC America competitors TechSport Racing bring back the #23 Nissan 370Z to the class for Joseph Federl, who won the second round of COTA competition in 2020. 

The BMW M240iR Cup car will continue with its commanding presence in numbers on the grid as Classic BMW returns with a single entry for 2020 Driver’s Championship runner-up Toby Grahovec, again a championship favorite, in the #26. Hard Motorsports will field two entries from the Bavarian brand for Steve Streimer in the #30 and Adam Harding in the #31. Auto Technic Racing rounds out the BMW group with Austen Smith piloting the #51 and Tom Capizzi the #52.

GenRacer will field two Hyundai Veloster N TCs for Jeff Ricca, running the #88, and Michael Sousa in the #78, while FTG Racing returns with the solo Mazda racer as Joey Jordan campaigns his #70 Mazda 3 TC for a second season.

A strong TCA championship battle is on deck with 11 cars from Honda, Hyundai, MINI, and Toyota filling the grid of TC America’s third touring car tier.

Forbush Performance joins the class with the lone #18 Hyundai Veloster Turbo TCA for Caleb Bacon, who finished sixth overall in the 2020 Drivers Championship.

MINI, the 2020 TCA Manufacturer Champions, return with their MINI JCW Team piloting the new John Cooper Works Coopers for drivers Mark Pombo, who won twice in 2020, in the #61 and Clay Williams, who ran a partial schedule last season, in the #62.

Honda will see five Civic SI TCAs race with LA Honda World, Team Sally Racing, and VGMC each bringing one car a piece and Skip Barber Racing School fielding two. LA Honda World will have Mario Biundo drive the #77 machine with Team Sally Racing fielding Sally McNulty in the #780. VGMC will run Formula 4 driver Jose Blanco behind the wheel of the #99 with Skip Barber Racing School prepping the #2 for Mike Stillwagon and #16 for Carter Fartuch. 

TechSport Racing, a newly-named Toyota Racing Development partner, will run three Toyota 86s for up-and-coming TRD drivers Jesse Love driving the #22, Sammy Smith in the #24 and SRO America veteran PJ Groenke in the #25. 

Don’t miss an action-packed season opener at Sonoma Raceway. Each race will be streamed live for free via SRO’s GT World YouTube Channel with Race 1 taking place on Saturday, March 6th at 1:05pm PST and Race 2 going green on Sunday, March 7th at 9:50am PST.
