ELKHART LAKE, Wisconsin - America’s National Park of Speed, Road America, is the next stop on the schedule for TC America Powered by Skip Barber. The 7th and 8th rounds of the season feature a twenty-nine car grid for the classic 4.048 mile, 14-turn road course near Elkhart Lake in the scenic Kettle Moraine region of Wisconsin.
The new TCX category features six BMW M2 CS Cup cars, three from Classic BMW, and one entry each from Hard Motorsport, Accelerating Performance, and KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering. So far this year, no one has dethroned Jacob Ruud in the #81 Classic BMW entry, and he enters the weekend at Road America undefeated in 2021 with a commanding lead in the points. Olivia Askew and John Hennessy will drive the #3 and #50 Classic BMW team cars, respectively. Ruud’s closest rival, Roy Block, returns in the #5 KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering BMW with his sights set on catching Ruud. Steve Streimer returns for a third race weekend with the #30 Hard Motorsport team, while Stephen Cugliari makes his first start of the season in the #57 Accelerating Performance TCX entry.
The diverse TC class includes thirteen cars representing five different manufacturers. Kevin Boehm’s #9 DXDT Racing Honda Civic Type-R is just one of five Civic Type-Rs running at Road America. LA Honda World will bring a pair for drivers Frank Szczesniak in the #73 and Mike Lamarra, who scored a podium at Circuit of the Americas, in the #37. Lindsay Brewer (#29) and Eric Powell (#92), the current TC points leader, will run for Skip Barber Racing School in their Honda Civic Type-Rs.
Auto Technic Racing will run the BMW M240iR for both its #51 and #52 entries, with Austen Smith and Tom Capizzi behind the wheel of each. Matthew Ibrahim will run the same platform for DRS & Garagistic in the #06, while teammate Kris Valdez helms the #09.
TechSport Racing’s Rob Hines enters the weekend with the #21 Nissan 370Z to gather points while locked in a tight three-way battle with Capizzi and Jeff Ricca, who currently defends fourth-place standings in the #78 GenRacer Hyundai Veloster N. New for Road America, Ricca will be joined by teammate Michael Souza, piloting the #88 Hyundai Veloster N from the same paddock. Derek Jones is set to helm the #60 MINI JCW Team Mini Cooper to round out the 13-car TC field.
The TCA grid sports ten cars across four different manufacturers, including Honda, Hyundai, MINI, and Toyota. Skip Barber Racing School’s #2 and #16 Honda Civic Si TCA cars will be piloted by Colin Harrison and Carter Fartuch respectively. Fartuch remains a close third in the TCA standings behind Jesse Love (#22 TechSport Racing Toyota 86), the teen driving sensation that also slated to return to competition at Road America. Love will be accompanied by teammate PJ Groenke, contesting in the #25 TechSport Toyota 86.
At the top of the TCA championship, Caleb Bacon defends his lead in the #18 Forbush Performance Hyundai Veloster Turbo. His Forbush Performance teammate Luke Rumburg, the category’s most recent winner from Virginia International Raceway, will run the #33 Hyundai twin.
Clayton Williams, who sits fifth in the championship, will run the #61 MINI JCW Team MINI Cooper. LA Honda World’s TCA contender will be represented by Mario Biundo in the #77 Honda Civic Si. Two more Hondas, the #99 VGMC Racing car of Jose Blanco, and the #780 Team Sally Racing entry for Sally McNulty, round out the rest of an impressive grid for the Road America circuit.
