WATKINS GLEN, NY – It has been a busy time for Jacob Ruud this year between his racing season and his schoolwork at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

But the 21-year-old college student from Racine, WI, wouldn’t want it any other way because both have been very successful.

On the track, Ruud has been dominant with seven feature wins in eight events this year in the TCX sports car class, part of the TC America national road racing tour. And Jacob will stay in upstate New York this weekend (Sept. 17-19) in the SRO America sports car spectacular at the famed Watkins Glen International road circuit.

In school, Ruud is majoring in Cyber Security and is working towards his Masters’ degree this coming year while leading his class on the racetrack too. Jacob holds a huge point lead in the national TCX class standings.

“It’s been pretty busy this year but I’m not complaining,” said Ruud, who’ll drive the No. 81 Light Speed/Classic BMW BMW M2 Cup sports car doubleheader weekend for Fast Track Racing. “With the debut of the new the BMW M2 race car, we have had so much fun with the driving and the winning races. This new car has provided me with the ability to show off my racing talent too. The Fast Track Racing team has developed this car into a lightning fast machine and we want to continue our winning ways at the Glen. It is close to school too, so I can finish up in the classroom and head to Watkins Glen this weekend.”
In addition to seven wins in eight races in 2021, Ruud has scored eight pole positions and six fastest race laps with his BMW M2 Cup car.

“I have driven many laps around the Glen track over the past few years and I’m confident entering this weekend’s action,” said Ruud, who has won races at many famed U.S. road circuits this year including Sonoma Raceway, Circuit of the Americas (COTA), VIRginia International Raceway and Road America. “The Watkins Glen track is very challenging, and you can’t make any mistakes with that long course (3.4 miles). But our team is ready for this weekend, and I’d loved to win both feature races on Saturday and Sunday.”

Ruud and his Fast Track Racing operation will be in TCX action at Watkins Glen International starting with practice on Friday, Sept. 17. Qualifying is scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 9:40 a.m. CDT with Race 1 (40-minute sprint) set for Saturday at 4:25 p.m. EDT. The second 40-minute race will take place at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 19.
