Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - It’s going to be a hot weekend at Road America, and not just temperature-wise! The stakes are high in the TC America powered by Skip Barber series as the championship fight is shaping up to be extremely tight for the remainder of the season in each of the three classes.
An impressive field of 28 talented drivers will tackle the 4.048-mile, 14-turn track, nicknamed America’s National Park of Speed. This 67-year-old track can easily accommodate thousands of fans across its 640-acre park, perfect for motorsport enthusiasts looking to spend some quality time at one of America’s most prestigious venues.
TCX
In the TCX class, ten BMW M2 CS Cup cars will take part in the on-track action. 2021 Road America race winner and series champion Jacob Rudd will be commanding his #1 Fast Track Racing machine, looking to secure a sixth win this season.
Colin Garrett, in his #44 Rooster Hall Racing BMW, will be looking to score a fourth win this season, but will also be aiming to make up ground in the championship standings as he is only 28 points off the lead.
New York native Stephen Cugliari couldn’t quite place his #57 Accelerating Performance BMW on the podium at his home track a few weeks ago. However, he is looking to put an end to his bad luck streak by claiming the win at Road America, where he had won Race 2 back in 2021.
Joseph and Lucas Catania will be commanding the #24 and #26 Rigid Speed team cars, while Olivia Askew and Garrett Adams will be in the #29 and #54 Fast Track Racing entries. Garrett Adams scored his first podium in the TCX class at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago.
Seven drivers in the TCX class have finished in the Top 4 this season, and the top-five all have 100% finishing records, much to the fans’ delight as they have been gifted with extremely tight racing.
TC
Championship leader Kevin Boehm returns for rounds 9 and 10 with the #9 CrowdStrike Racing by Skip Barber Racing Honda Civic Type-R. The engineer-racer has had a superb season so far, scoring six wins and claiming the lead in the championship with 183 points.
Clay Williams, in his #60 MINI Team JCW machine, is second in points with 113, having scored two wins. Williams would no doubt be much closer to Boehm if not for two DNF’s.
Mat Pombo, currently third in points, will miss this event. This will provide an opportunity for Genracer / Ricca Autosport Hyundai Veloster N teammates Nicholas Barbato and Jeff Ricca, currently fourth and fifth in points to advance. Barbato is on a hot streak havening finished fourth, third, third, and second in the last four races. Will Road America be his breakthrough win? Ricca will also be seeking a Road America win as he scored a pair of runner-up finishes here in 2021.
Matthew Ibrahim (#6 DRS & Garagistic BMW M240iR) has been having a strong sophomore season having scored points in every race including his first podium finish at NOLA. With eight TC cars in the field, a podium result could belong to any of them.
West Coast racer Joey Jordan returns to the TC field in his #70 FTG Racing Mazda 3. He had previously participated in Rounds 1 and 2 at Sonoma Raceway.
TCA
Carter Fartuch’s #16 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Si is the car the beat this weekend as he will be defending his 31-point championship lead from Gresham Wagner (#21 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ).
Last year, Fartuch was impossible to catch at Road America, winning both races. This year Fartuch has three wins and an amazing 100% podium finish record.
Wagner has been fast, winning four races, but having a DNF and two races where he finished outside the top-six has made his championship challenge a struggle.
Wagner’s teammate, Devin Anderson (#22 Techsport Subaru BRZ), is still seeking his first win having been the runner-up five times so far this year.
The TCA grid will be sporting ten cars across four different manufacturers, including Honda, Hyundai, MINI, and Subaru. MINI JCW Team is well represented by race-winner Cristian Perocarpi, commanding the #61 MINI JCW, and by Canadian driver PJ Groenke in his #62 MINI JCW. Bryan Herta Autosport w/ Curb-Agajanian’s #33 and #98 Hyundai Elantra N-Line cars will be piloted by Tyler Delgado and Branyon Tiner, respectively.
