- Rookie Gleason, Fast Track Racing, fastest in TCX
- Ricca and Hyundai set the pace in TC
- Bucknum, Skip Barber Racing Tops TCA
- Provisional Results
The TC America Powered by Skip Barber field took to track for the first official practice session of the 2023 season. The 2.505-mile, 12-turn circuit welcomed 26 machines on this cold, hazy morning. A short rain shower plagued the session, which started under a caution flag, but drivers were able to capitalize on the second half of the session as the track was gradually drying and the skies were clearing up.
The few cars that took to the track early in the session, carefully clocked in laps under wet conditions. As the asphalt began to dry up, most of the field made its way onto the track with less than 15 minutes remaining on the clock. The GT Sonoma protected by CrowdStrike weekend is shaping up to be a successful event, with not only a record number of entries but also hundreds of fans who made the trip to the magnificent Bay Area race track.
TCX
Newcomer Adam Gleason, a young rising star from Dallas (Texas), made a name for himself in karting before graduating to sports car racing with championship-winning team Fast Track Racing. He set the pace during Practice One, clocking in an impressive 2:01.761 under harsh conditions. The driver of the No. 21 BMW M2 CS (Cup) edged series regulars Colin Garrett, who was commanding his trusted No. 44 Rooster Hall Racing BMW M2 CS (Cup), and Lucas Catania aboard his #26 Rigid Speed Company BMW M2 CS (Cup).
TC
Jeff Rica lost no time on board his all-new No. 78 Genracer / Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N TC, setting the fastest lap time in Practice One. Could this be a sign of a potential first victory on the horizon for Ricca, who has secured six podium finishes in 2022? Celso Neto, at the helm of the No. 7 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Type-R, set the second fastest lap time of the session, ahead of Ricca’s teammate Sally McNulty in the No. 780 GenRacer Hyundai Veloster N. After a successful 2022 season in the TCA class, McNulty made the move up to the TC class.
TCA
Spencer Bucknum made a grand entrance in his return to the TCA class, as the driver of the No. 5 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Si FE1 claimed the fastest lap time in his field. Coming in second place was William Lambros, go-kart sensation and Skip Barber protégé, commanding his No. 77 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Si FE1. Class regular Devin Anderson rounded off the Top 3 in his No. 22 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ.
Although drivers didn’t have a full practice session due to inclement weather, they managed to take to the track and gather crucial data ahead of Practice Two at 2:25 PM PT.
