- Local driver Kyle Loh tops the TCX charts
- Ricca and Hyundai fastests in TC
- Bucknum, Skip Barber Racing ahead in TCA
- Provisional Results
Contrary to the morning session, TC America Powered by Skip Barber’s second practice took place under the shining sun and clear skies. The drivers tackled the 12-corner, hilly course one last time before qualifying is set to commence at 8:50 AM PT on Saturday morning. The field is looking as competitive as ever, with drivers and teams across all classes fighting for top honors ahead of the season's opening races.
TCX
During the 30-minute practice session, Kyle Loh, Taiwanese/American race car driver, set the pace in the TCX class aboard his No. 73 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Type-R TCX. The 24-year old is no stranger to the likes of Sonoma Raceway, as the California venue is his home track. Series regular Lucas Catania was only 0.432 behind Loh, commanding his No. 26 Rigid Speed Company BMW M2 CS (Cup). Catania was quick to initially rise to the top of the leaderboard by setting the fastest lap time earlier in the session, but he eventually got dethroned.
Japanese drifting sensation Daijiro Yoshihara came in third place in his No. 88 VGRT Honda Civic Type-R TCX, followed by Colin Garrett commanding the No. 44 Rooster Hall Racing BMW M2 CS (Cup). Rounding up the Top 5 was Adam Gleason in his No. 21 Fast Track Racing BMW M2 CS (Cup).
TC
The No. 78 Genracer / Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N TC of Jeff Rica was the car to beat. Not only did he set the fastest lap time in the TC Class, but also topped the charts overall during the session, edging out TCX driver Loh by 0.385. Brazilian Celso Neto set the second-fastest lap time in class with his No. 7 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Type-R, ahead of the No. 8 VGRT Honda Civic Type-R of Michael Hurczyn.
Neto’s teammate Ken Fukuda set the fourth fastest lap time in the No. 42 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Type-R, ahead of the No. 37 MINI JCW TeamMini JCW Pro TC of Cristian Perocarpi.
TCA
Spencer Bucknum proved once more that consistency is key, as he earned the top spot in the TCA class for the second time today. The driver of the No. 5 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Si FE1 set a flying lap time of 1:59.968 and was the only one in his field who managed to squeeze under the 2-minute mark.
The No. 77 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Si FE1 of William Lambros comfortably slotted itself into second place, much like in the first practice session this morning. Lambros was followed by an incredibly tight battle for third place between teammates Devin Anderson and Shaoyi Che in the No. 22 and No. 23 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ. The pair were only separated by a mere 0.047 seconds, indicating that this highly competitive pairing could be in a great position to challenge for back-to-back team championship titles. Mario Biundo rounded off the Top 5 in his No. 07 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Si.
