TC America Title Contenders Set to Face Off in Alabama

Birmingham, Alabama will be the host for the penultimate events of the season as the TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School competitors make their way to Barber Motorsports Park for an exciting weekend ahead. Rounds eleven and twelve will take place from September 6th to 8th, where drivers across all three TCX, TC, and TCA classes will have another shot at clinching top results as the season approaches its final stages. Championship titles are up for grabs as the field prepares to tackle the complex 2.38-mile, 17-turn track in two 40-minute sprint races.

Beyond the on-track action, fans can get the full Barber Motorsports Park experience by  enjoying an open paddock atmosphere, featuring autograph sessions, local vendors, a Car Corral, and the opportunity to see the finest GT machinery in the world on the pre-race grid walk during Sunday’s Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS race.

TCX Class

Celso Neto has had a strong string of performances, earning three wins in the past four races in his No. 22 Skip Barber Racing Acura Integra Type S. However, Chris Walsh’s dominant winning streak has put him comfortably ahead in the standings, and the driver of the No. 104 Carrus Callas Raceteam BMW M2 CS (Cup) has put himself in a position to clinch the title.

Meanwhile, Cooper Broll is inching towards the top three on the leaderboard in his No. 19 Skip Barber Racing Acura Integra Type S, while Christopher DeFreitas has moved into fifth position following his maiden podium finish in Race 2 at Road America in his No. 39 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura Integra Type S. Nevertheless, Aaron Kaplan sits a mere three points behind in the No. 18 Kaplan Racing Systems BMW M2 CS (Cup) and will be looking to raise a challenge.

TC Class

Jeff Ricca’s consistent podium finishes in his No. 78 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N Cup have enabled him to maintain his lead in the TC class standings, although Cristian Perocarpi has been on the charge recently in the No. 37 MINI JCW Team MINI JCW TC Pro, claiming three consecutive wins.

Ruben Iglesias Jr. had a challenging weekend in Wisconsin and will be aiming to recover some points in Alabama on board his No. 77 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N Cup. Despite the setback, he holds a 14-point advantage over teammate Sally McNulty in fourth in the No. 780 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N Cup, who took home two third-place finishes in the prior event.

Scott Thomson is on the hunt for his first podium result of the year in his No. 66 MINI JCW Team MINI JCW TC Pro, and Ron Zaras is set to make another appearance in the No. 76 Hyundai Elantra N1 TC.

TCA Class

Following his clean sweep of the weekend at Road America, PJ Groenke now has the opportunity to secure the TCA class championship title at the upcoming rounds in his No. 62 MINI JCW Team MINI JCW. He holds a substantial lead over Alex Garcia in second-place, who has run a partial season in the No. 14 Skip Barber Racing Honda Civic Si FE1, but both drivers have their eyes locked on that top step.

The TCA class also welcomes Maddy Lemke back to the competition in her No. 9 Ascent Racing Honda Civic Si FE1. Finally, Karl Hertel becomes the newest driver to join the TCA field in his No. 93 HART Alabama Honda Civic Si FE1.
