Gyumin Kim Secures Pole Position in TC America Debut

As the opening day at Circuit of The Americas began to draw to a close, the TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School field took to the track one last time for their fifteen minute Qualifying session. As temperatures soared, drivers pushed their machines to the limit to set the grid ahead of Race 1 on Friday.

Antonio Costantino started off the session in strong fashion in his No. 3 JMF Motorsports Toyota GR Corolla TC, topping the charts early on. However, as drivers settled in and got their tires warmed up, it was newcomer Gyumin Kim in the No. 74 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC who rose to the top with 8 minutes remaining in the session.

Series veteran Jeff Ricca followed suit, but was not able to record a better lap time than his teammate. The driver of the No. 78 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC had to settle for second place, 0.669 seconds behind the leader and pole sitter.

The No. 07 Skip Barber Racing Acura Integra Type S of Michael Garcia went third quickest, with Canadian driver PJ Groenke laying down the fourth fastest lap time of the session in his No. 76 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO.

Other Canadian and fellow Ricca Autosport competitor Eric Kunz rounded off the Top 5 in his No. 77 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO.
