The summer break has come to an end and the on-track action has officially resumed again. The opening practice session for TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School at VIRginia International Raceway was held bright and early on Thursday morning, with competitors ready to get back up to speed after a couple of months away.
However, just nine minutes into the session, a red flag brought an early halt to proceedings, and the session ultimately did not resume. With the majority of the field still in their tire warm-up phase, few drivers had a chance to put together representative flying laps.
Among those able to post a competitive time was Jonathan Neudorf, who clocked a 2:06.025 behind the wheel of the No. 4 JMF Motorsports Toyota GR Corolla TC to lead the session. Jeff Ricca slotted in just behind in second place with his No. 78 Ricca Autosport Hyundai Elantra N1 TC EVO, narrowly trailing Neudorf before the stoppage. Third was occupied by PJ Groenke in the No. 76 Ricca Autosport machine.
With Practice 1 cut short, teams and drivers will be looking to maximize every moment of track time in the next session as they prepare for a competitive weekend at VIR.
