Las Vegas, NV – Johan Schwartz, the 2019 TC Driver’s Champion, added to his impressive season totals winning the final race of the season, Sunday morning’s TC Round 14 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The TC America series closes out its 2019 season in Las Vegas – the weekend is sponsored by R.U.N – The First Live Action Thriller Produced by Cirque du Soleil. Saturday’s Round 13 winner Jeff Ricca finished second, while Chandler Hull finished third.
From pole, Ricca, in his #78 GenRacer Hyundai Veloster N led the field to the green flag and drag raced with Schwartz, in his Rooster Hall Racing #80 BMW M240iR Cup to the first corner squeezing into the lead. Behind them Hanna Zellers in the #06 DRS (Dynamic Racing Solutions) BMW M235iR Cup slotted into third, with Hull in the Copart / BimmerWorld Racing #94 BMW M240iR Cup in fourth.
Lap 2 saw former TC Driver’s Champion Toby Grahovec in his #26 Classic BMW BMW M240iR Cup moving up into fourth around Hull.
A flurry of action occurred on Lap 7 as Schwartz closed on Ricca and passed for the lead, while Grahovec moved into third around Zellers, who dropped back to fifth with Hull moving into fourth. By lap 9, Ricca tried to fight back on Schwartz but the driver of the #80 machine defended his lead deftly.
Hull then passed Grahovec through turn 3 to grab third. On lap 20 Hull and Grahovec continued their heated battle with the two going side by side through turns 3 and 4 – Hull though was able to hold off the challenge to maintain position.
Up front, Ricca would continue to fill Schwartz’ mirrors for the rest of the race looking for an opportunity to regain the lead, but the 2019 Champion never relented and took the checkered.
"Well what can I say, I mean what a way to finish off the season,” said Schwartz. “Getting a win for the team the last race of the year, great battle with Ricca. It was a lot of fun racing with him. Rooster Hall Racing is amazing, our goal this year was to win the championship and now at the end of the season it became a reality. Solid year and it's been a lot of fun, these guys are phenomenal. I'm very proud."
"We are a family run business, my wife owns the team,” said Rooster Hall Racing’s Todd Brown. “We came from BMW club racing and this is our third season here now and it has been a dream. We were the first team in pro sports car racing to be sponsored by a University. We've also had lead engineers as active students from University. I'm most proud of where our interns are ending up and that's what it's all about, giving these kids a chance. Johan came to us 2 years ago and it was one of the greatest fortunes that we've had. It's been a great season and my parents had some hardships at the beginning of this season, so we dedicated this season to them and are happy to have come out with stellar awards."
Schwartz closes out an impressive 2019 campaign with his 8th win of the season. Watch the TC races from Las Vegas Motor Speedway on CBS Sports Network on Oct. 27, at 1 pm EDT.
