TC America, made up of the exciting TCR, TC, and TCA classes, returns to action next weekend at VIRginia International Raceway, a 3.27-mile, 17-turn natural terrain circuit in Alton, Virginia. A diverse and international lineup of 33 cars from VW, Audi, Honda, Hyundai, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Nissan, Subaru, and MINI will battle in a traditional single driver, sprint race triple-header for rounds 3, 4, and 5 of the 2020 season.
Returning to the championship is the TCR DSG category, composed of VW and Audi machinery with Direct-Shift Gearboxes, with new and improved Balance of Performance giving the German makes a shot at taking the overall victory once again. Joining the international-spec TCR machines will see a total of three DSG entries from Audi and VW. “This has been a nine-month long project between WSC, SRO, and Audi Customer Racing,” said TC America Class Manager Jim Jordan, “The hard work behind the scenes between the three organizations has paid off with competitive BoP between the DSG and Sequential TCR challengers and we are extremely excited to show it off at VIR!”
“It was a huge team effort,” said Louis Malone of TMR Engineering, “While I am now with Alfa Romeo North America, I had been with Audi for a long time and the teamwork and cooperation it took to get the BoP for the DSG and Sequential TCR cars was great. Awesome effort all around between SRO, WSC, and Audi on this project.”
Tristan Herbert, driver of the # 44 New German Performance Audi RS3 LMS DSG and Audi Sport Customer Racing Manager, said, “Everyone has been patiently waiting for the engines to fire up in motorsports so when the opportunity to pilot the Audi RS3 LMS with one of my customers came to fruition under New German Performance, it was something I couldn’t pass up. I’m excited to share teammate Vinnie Lima’s experience stepping up to pro racing at our home track of VIR.”
It’s not only the DSG drivers that are excited to be back racing. Victor Gonzalez, in his second season of TC America TCR competition in the # 99 VGMC Honda Civic Type R, said, “We’re happy and blessed to be back racing with my family from VGMC Racing. Everybody has been working nonstop to be ready to have a strong restart to the 2020 season. A big thank you to everyone at TC America for their commitment and always making us feel like part of the family.”
