Austin, Texas - TCR driver Tyler Maxson will lead the field to green later today after scoring the overall TC America pole at Circuit of the Americas. Toby Grahovec will start on the TC pole, while Kevin Boehm took the honors in the TCA category.
Held under clear, 71-degree Fahrenheit conditions the 15-minute qualifying session saw 31 cars take to the track to set the grid for Friday afternoon's Round 12 race.
Maxson, in the Copeland Motorsports #74 Hyundai Veloster N set the early blistering time of 2:20.702. In TC, Grahovec in the #26 Classic BMW BMW M240iR posted a 2:26.192 to lead fellow Championship contender James Clay in the BimmerWorld Racing #36 BMW M240iR (2:26.600). In TCA, Boehm in the #9 Boehm Racing Honda Civic Si topped the charts in class with a 2:32.420 ahead of MINI JCW Team driver Tomas Mejia in the #60 MINI Cooper JCW (2:33.680). KMR Motorsports w/ TMR Engineering's Roy Block slotted momentarily into second overall and in TCR behind the wheel of the #5 Alfa Romeo (2:21.604).
A flurry of changes to the charts occurred on the last laps of the session as Taylor Hagler in the #77 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Type-R went to second overall and in TCR with a 2:21.191, while Auto Technic Racing's John Capestro Dubets driving the #20 M240iR posted a 2:26.590 and will start alongside Grahovec in TC. TechSport Racing's Ben Bettenhausen in the #28 Subaru BRZ tS posted a 2:33.429 and will start alongside Boehm TCA.
