TCR Champion: Tyler Maxson

15 October 2020 TCR

Nine. That is the number of sequential races Tyler Maxson won to kick off the 2020 TC America TCR season in his #74 Copeland Motorsports Hyundai Motorsports Veloster N TCR. To say the soon-to-be 16 year old was dominant this year is an understatement. He was incredible.

Maxson won the TCR driver’s title after winning Round 12, his tenth victory of the season, at Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas with four rounds to go. He would then go on to repeat at Round 13, claiming his 11th and final win of the season. Unlike the previous race, Maxson started from the back of the grid, then worked his way to the front and still took a 1.5 second victory. Maxson won from both the front and back of the grid, proving that his lack of experience was not a detriment to his ability and versatility as a driver.

“It really comes down to the quality and preparation of the Copeland Motorsports team, they are top notch," said Maxson after the Round 12 race. "These guys put in more work on this car than anyone I know, and it feels great to pick up my 10th win and another championship with the team."

Maxson concluded, “Entering 2020, I knew that we would have the opportunity to compete for race wins and with some luck, the series title. To end the season with eleven victories shows the strength of the overall program. We worked hard each race weekend to ensure we could represent the Veloster N and the Hyundai brand at the front of the field. I am excited to see what the future has in store. A huge thank you to Hyundai, Copeland Motorsports, Bryan Herta Autosport, HRX USA and Four Seasons Auto Wash.”
