  • Powell takes TC
  • Love on top of TCA

Sonoma, Calif - Jacob Ruud and the #81 Classic BMW M2 CS Cup took the first ever TCX pole at Sonoma Raceway for the new-for-2021 class, starting off the season at the pointy end of the grid for Saturday afternoon’s Race 1. Ruud wasted no time setting a fast lap, going purple in every sector to set a time of 1:51.422 on his third flying lap.

A stranded #24 TechSport Racing Toyota 86 of Sammy Smith brought out a red flag just 4 minutes into the 15 minute session due to an apparent mechanical issue that left a trail of fluid at the start/finish straight. The car would be quickly towed back to the paddock as a mad-dash for the track took place with only 11 minutes remaining on the clock.

Behind Ruud went teammate Tommy McCarthy and the #27 Classic BMW M2 CS Cup with Roy Block’s #5 KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering BMW M2 CS Cup third.

The TC pole went to Eric Powell’s #92 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Type-R after setting a flying 1:52.656 lap time. 2020 TCA Champ Kevin Boehm, who is making his TC-class debut, will start from second in the #9 DXDT Honda Civic Type-R with the #21 TechSport Racing Nissan 370Z of Rob Hines third on the grid.

Jesse Love and the #22 TechSport Racing Toyota 86 will start from the TCA-class pole, with Mark Pombo’s #61 MINI Cooper and the #99 VGMC Honda Civic Si rounding out the top three.

TC America presented by Skip Barber Racing School Race 1 goes green at 1:05 PM local time. Follow along live at https://www.tcamerica.us/live.
