ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. - Stephen Cugliari led TCX in the first practice session at Road America for TC America Powered by Skip Barber with a time of 2:24.640. The #81 Classic BMW M2 CS Cup driven by Jacob Ruud finished second, four tenths back from Cugliari’s #57 Accelerating Performance BMW. John Hennessy, Olivia Askew, and Steve Streimer also set top-five times in opening practice.
In the TC category, Austen Smith set the quickest lap early in the session with a 2:28.561 in his #51 Auto Technic Racing BMW M240iR, followed by Kevin Boehm’s #9 DXDT Racing Honda Civic Type-R. TC championship leader Eric Powell was sixth fastest in practice behind Jeff Ricca’s #78 GenRacer Hyundai Veloster N, the #52 BMW M240iR of Tom Capizzi, and Matthew Ibrahim’s #06 Auto Technic Racing BMW.
The #62 JCW MINI Mini Cooper driven by Clayton Williams was fastest in TCA with a time of 2:39.866. Carter Fartuch was second, followed by Sally McNulty’s #780 Team Sally Racing Honda Civic Si, Jesse Love’s #22 TechSport Racing Toyota 86, and the #99 VGMC Racing Honda Civic Si driven by Jose Blanco. Championship leader Caleb Bacon finished sixth in the first of two practice sessions on Friday.
TC America Powered by Skip Barber will practice a second time at 2:20 PM CT on Friday, August 27th with live timing available at https://www.tcamerica.us/live. Qualifying is Saturday, August 28th at 9:40 AM CT with Race 1 following at 5:10 PM CT.
