Watkins Glen, New York - The sun was shining brightly over Watkins Glen International as the TC America powered by Skip Barber series took on the Upstate New York track for their 15-minute qualifying session ahead of Race 1 at 1:10 PM ET.
With hot track temperatures and intense competition, Championship leader Jacob Ruud claimed pole position in the TCX class, with Clay Williams dominating in the TC class and Gresham Wagner setting the fastest lap in TCA.
TCX
In his #1 Fast Track Racing BMW M2 CS (Cup), Championship leader Jacob Ruud dominated the TCX class qualifying session on Saturday. With a lap time of 2:02.084, the young driver took pole position for the upcoming race this afternoon. Ruud was just 0.039 ahead of Colin Garrett in the #44 Rooster Hall Racing BMW M2 CS (Cup).
Lucas Catania in the #26 Rigid Speed BMW M2 CS (Cup) rounded the top three, 0.300 off Ruud's pole position time. Stephen Cugliari, Brett Scroggin, Steve Streimer, Olivia Askew, Joseph Catania and Garrett Adams completed the top 10.
TC
Clay Williams once again topped the charts in his #60 JCW Team MINI JCW Pro TC. After setting the fastest TC class time in both practice sessions yesterday, he clinched pole position this morning with a time of 2:04.720, 0.201 faster than Nicholas Barbato in the #88 Gennracer / Ricca Autosport Team Hyundai Veloster N TC.
Rounding out the top three was the #9 CrowdStrike Racing / Skip Barber Racing Honda Civic Type-R, driven by Kevin Boehm, marking him as the third different manufacturer within the top three. Jeff Ricca, Matthew Ibrahim, Ken Fukuda, Kris Valdez, Mat Pombo, Mike Lamarra and Celso Neto followed to complete the top 10 in the TC class.
TCA
The competition was tight in the TCA class as Gresham Wagner secured pole position in his #21 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ by setting a lap time of 2:10.138, leading his championship rival Devin Anderson in the #22 Techsport Subaru BRZ by only 0.194. Spencer Bucknum put his #5 LA Honda World Racing Honda Civic Si into third position for Race 1, while Championship leader Carter Faturch (#16 Skip Barber Racing School Honda Civic Si) had a difficult session as he only secured the sixth fastest lap time.
Race 1 starts at 1:10 PM ET.
