ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 21, 2022) – Skip Barber Racing School’s Kevin Boehm, VGRT’s Celso Neto, and Skip Barber Racing School’s Ken Fukuda piloted their HPD Honda Civic Type R machines to the top five in the TC class Saturday in Round 9 of the TC America series at Road America. And with a second-place finish in both weekend races, Boehm continued his season-long TC class streak of podium finishes.
In the TCA class, Skip Barber Racing School’s Carter Fartuch and Sally McNulty finished in the top five Sunday in the HPD Honda Civic Si FE1. This weekend marked the first time McNulty has raced for Skip Barber Racing School, and her first race behind the wheel of the HPD Honda Civic Si FE1.
TC Honda Civic Type R
The ninth round of the SRO TC America powered by Skip Barber series started with the HPD Honda Civic Type R in three of the top five TC class positions, with Boehm on pole, Neto in fourth, and Fukuda in fifth. During the formation laps, however, Jeff Ricca pulled to the side of the track with mechanical problems, moving Neto and Fukuda up one position and causing the race to start under the caution flag. The green flag dropped after one additional lap behind the safety car, then was quickly interrupted again by a collision in the TCX field, leading to another yellow flag after less than a lap of racing.
The green flag dropped once again with 26 minutes remaining in the timed event. Shortly afterward, Boehm fell to second place, and Fukuda briefly fell to sixth. But each of the racers behind the wheel of the HPD Honda Civic Type R managed to finish in the top five, with Boehm holding second, Neto in third, and Fukuda working back up to fourth.
Boehm and Neto also performed well in the TC class during Sunday’s race, with Boehm again finishing second and Neto taking fourth. Boehm has finished on the TC class podium in every race this season.
TCA Honda Civic Si
The HPD Honda Civic Si faced a challenging race Saturday, with Fartuch starting fifth, McNulty in seventh, and Harrison ninth. Following the second yellow flag, Fartuch was dealt a drive-through penalty for a false start, causing him to finish near the back of the TCA class. McNulty defended her sixth-place position to the end of the race.
The Skip Barber Racing School team earned better results with their HPD Honda Civic Si FE1 race machines Sunday, despite Fartuch and McNulty starting fifth and eighth on the grid. Both worked their way up to the top five by the end of the race, with Fartuch finishing third and McNulty in fifth.
Saturday marked McNulty’s first race on the Skip Barber Racing School team, and she is the second driver in the series to sit behind the wheel of the all-new HPD Honda Civic Si FE1, which will be available for delivery to customers by the end of 2022.
