Maddie Aust Stars at VIR with a Double TCX Win Weekend For Fast Track Racing with Sewell BMW M2 SC (Cup) Machine

Maddie Aust turned in one of the most impressive performances in recent years in TC America this weekend (June 17-18) at VIRginia International Raceway by driving her No. 09 Sewell Automotive Texas/Fast Track Racing BMW M2 CS (Cup) sports car to double TCX division wins in just her third sports car weekend.

Aust, the 18-year-old recent high school graduate from Fort Worth, TX, came to the tough 3.27-mile, 17-turn road course after two weekends of competition in the TCX class where she placed second and third at NOLA Motorsports Park last month. In addition, she won a pole position and fast race lap at NOLA for Fast Track Racing.

The former competitive national cheerleader fought off numerous challenges Sunday from TCX race winners Colin Garrett and Jospeh Catania in a sensational 40-minute sprint contest as she battled through lapped traffic and pressure at all of the 17 VIR corners before taking the checkered flag over Garrett and Catania.

On Saturday, Aust was awarded the race victory after Catania was penalized for on-track contact, but there was no denying the young woman racer in Sunday’s thrilling event. After penalties were assessed, Aust was joined on the victory podium by Fast Track Racing teammate Adam Gleason at the controls of the No. 21 Megawatt/Bitcoin BMW M2 with a solid second place finish.

“I’m super excited with the two wins at VIR,” said Aust. “I came to VIR to improve on my driving technics and look for a chance to win. I wanted to keep my head down and stay consistent with my laps. I think I showed that in both races and especially in the Sunday event.

“I entered Sunday’s races saying that I wanted to win the race on the track and that was what we did. Those guys were right there the entire time, and I kept my pace throughout the race. My nickname is “Mad Dog” and I think it held up today. I want to thank the entire team at Fast Track Racing as well as the Sewell Automotive Texas company for its support. It’s a great weekend for everyone here.”

Team manager Toby Grahovec was ecstatic with Aust’s VIR performance and could see it coming after the VIR test last week.

“The weather and heat started the weekend off for us in the worst way possible, but Maddie Aust and Adam Gleason brought home a double podium with 1st and 2nd place in Race 1,” said Grahovec. “It was a long hard fight for both drivers and Adam also bringing home the eBoost “Hard Charger” award.

“Maddie Aust became the FIRST ever female to capture an overall win in SRO America competition! We could see Maddie’s speed last week in the VIR test, and she proved it this weekend to a spectacular double TCX race win. We are proud of both Maddie and Adam for great drives.”

Gleason, a rookie in the TCX Category in 2023, made the TCX podium for the first time this year after three fourth place finishes at Sonoma and NOLA.

Aust, Gleason and the TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School road racing series return to action at the legendary Road America four-mile road circuit in Wisconsin on August 18-20 for Rounds 7 and 8 in the 14-event national tour.
