TechSport Racing Takes the lead in TCA, Sits Comfortably in Second in GRCup After VIR

TechSport Racing demonstrated their depth as a team this past weekend.  Racing on home soil, they ran up front in both TCA and GRCup for both rounds.

In TCA, Devin Anderson finished the weekend in the points lead after an excellent showing at his home track.  In the first round, he qualified second behind Spencer Bucknum, but by lap two he took the lead and stayed in first through the entirety of the race.  Likewise, his teammate, Shaoyi Che started race one in fifth position but smoothly worked his way up to second and stayed there.  The duo finished the race with Devin in first and Shaoyi in second, scoring the best finish of his career to date.

Their podium celebration took an unexpected and fabulous turn as Che dropped to one knee and proposed to his longtime girlfriend Betty before any trophies were raised.   “We were all shocked!” states TechSport Team Owner Deb Popolizio.  “None of us knew that Shaoyi was planning on proposing.  My first thought was, how long has he been racing with that diamond ring in his pocket?” She continued.  Che explained “The VIR race was extremely tough, but that rock gave me a lot of strength. I really appreciate all the support I’ve received from Betty. I could not have done this without her. So, I figured she should be on the podium with me.”

Race two started with Shaoyi Che in third and Devin Anderson in fifth.  The start of the race saw fierce jockeying amongst the leaders and a spin for Che resulted from a contact.  He recovered quickly from last and was able to chase down second place towards the end of the race. Devin Anderson raced hard for the lead but an excursion at the oak tree turn lost him the lead and set him back to fourth. Devin recovered quickly and joined the battle for second against Spencer Bucknum with his teammate Shaoyi at the white flag lap. Ultimately, Devin finished in third on Spencer's bumper with Shaoyi finishing fourth right behind Devin. Devin secured his lead in the points as the series heads to Road America.

Not to be shown up, TechSport Racing drivers, Gresham Wagner, and Spike Kohlbecker, offered the most exciting racing to be witnessed in GR Cup.  Wagner started race one on pole with Kohlbecker close behind in sixth.  Wagner quickly took the lead and held it for half of the race.  With thirty minutes to go, Lucus Weissenburg challenged Wagner and an epic battle ensued with Wagner finishing second and Kohlbecker, fourth.

The second qualifying session on Sunday resulted in Spike Kohlbecker starting fourth and Gresham Wagner starting fourteenth. Kohlbecker scrapped his way up to second quickly and with a daring pass he took the lead.  A three-way jostle between the teammates and Tyler Gonzalez continued through most of the race and when it was over, Gresham Wagner finished second with Spike Kohlbecker finishing fifth.  Spike sits second in the points and Gresham in third.

Tune in for more excitement at Road America.  The TechSport Racing drivers will not disappoint.
