Indianapolis, Ind. - TCR driver Tim Lewis Jr. topped the charts in Thursday morning's TC America practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Series competitors took to the 2.4 mile, 13-turn road course for their first 35-minute practice.
TCR driver Victor Gonzalez Jr. in the #99 VGMC Racing Honda Civic Type-R TCR posted the early fast time of 1:38.397. A lap later, TC driver Mat Pombo then went quicker behind the wheel of his LA Honda World #73 Honda Civic Type-R (1:38.388). Eric Powell was the fastest TCA driver early on behind the wheel of his #22 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ tS (1:45.420).
With under 20 minutes remaining in the session, a flurry of drivers posted fast times to move to the top of the charts. DXDT Racing's Olivia Askew in the #29 Honda Civic Type-R TCR moved to the top with a 1:35.805. Pombo went faster to a 1:37.893, tops in TC, while Powell improved to a 1:42.718 in TCA.
New German Performance driver Tristan Herbert in the #44 Audi RS3 LMS then posted a fast time of 1:35.569. A couple of laps later, KMR Motorsports w/ TMR Engineering's Lewis Jr. in the #55 Alfa Romeo Giulietta went to the top with a 1:34.637. In TC, Pombo continued to improve and maintained his top spot in TC with a 1:37.605.
Kevin Boehm in the #9 Boehm Racing Honda Civic Si then posted the quickest time in TCA with a 1:42.292. DXDT Racing's Scott Smithson, in the #17 Honda Civic Type-R TCR then posted a 1:34.553, and a couple of laps later improved to a 1:34.091. Then with under four minutes in the session, Lewis Jr. went back to the top with a 1:33.970. Late in the session, Powell went back to the top in TCA with a 1:41.987. Pombo's time held for fastest in TC.
