SONOMA, CA - The TCR and TCA competitors hit the track on Friday morning at Sonoma Raceway, a 2.38 mile natural terrain road course, to kickoff the official practice sessions of the weekend. Michael Hurczyn topped the charts in his VW Golf GTI TCR.
The 35-minute session was held under sunny, 62 degrees Fahrenheit conditions. The TC America series features a single-driver, 40-minute double header weekend.
TCR championship leader Michael Hurczyn took his #71 FCP Euro VW Golf GTI TCR to the top of the charts after posting a 1:50.112 fastest lap time. Nate Vincent in the sister #72 FCP Euro VW Golf GTI would finish second with a 1:50.852 time. Mason Filippi and #12 Copeland Motorsports Hyundai Veloster N would finish third, .215 seconds behind Vincent.
The TCR Cup class was lead by Stephen Vadja’s #18 EXR Team by Premat Audi RS3 LMS TCR (DSG) after a 1:51.419 lap. TCR Cup championship leader Bryan Putt would end the session second in class after wheeling his #15 eEuroparts.com Rowe Racing Audi RS3 LMS TCR (DSG) to a 1:51.863 lap time.
Tyler Maxson, second in the TCA championship standings, topped the class after a 1:58.854 fastest lap in his #74 Copeland Motorsports Mazda MX5 Cup machine. TCA championship leader Nick Wittmer would finish the session second in his #91 TechSport Racing Subaru BRZ tS after posting a 1:58.982 lap time. Wittmer is looking to stay perfect in 2019 by taking wins 5 and 6 to kickoff the season. Nate Norenberg, driver of the #60 MINI JCW Team entry, would finish third in class with a 1:59.732.
The second and final TC America TCR/TCA practice session will take place later today at 3:35pm local time.
